The Role of the Parish Council
Members of the community working for the community…
“A parish council is a civil local authority found in England and is the lowest, or first, tier of local government. They are elected corporate bodies, have variable tax raising powers, and are responsible for areas known as civil parishes, serving in total 16 million people.”
Our Parish council is responsible for decisions that affect just over 400 residents within the Parish of Nether Denton. In addition to its representative powers, it manages and maintains the Taylor Institute Hall in Low Row, deals with issues arising locally, assists with community projects and liaises with both Cumberland Council and the former Cumbria County Council on behalf of local people.
Meetings are held in alternate months, and usually on the third Tuesday of the month. We meet in the Taylor Institute.
